The Light Academy of Florida is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Guidance Counselor to join our team. This role involves providing social, emotional, and academic support to students while also fostering strong relationships with families and staff. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students succeed in all areas of their lives and a collaborative approach to working with faculty and families.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Assist with student scheduling, ensuring students are placed in the appropriate classes based on their academic and personal needs.
Provide student support through counseling, mediation, and other strategies aimed at improving their academic, social, and emotional well-being.
Facilitate student mediation sessions to resolve conflicts and promote a positive school environment.
Act as the STAT Coordinator (Student-tailored Tool for Advising and Teaching) to ensure students receive the resources they need for academic success.
Support family mediation and engagement efforts, fostering strong partnerships between the school and families.
Serve as the point of contact for field trips, ensuring smooth coordination and communication with families and staff.
Assist with the school’s Student Information System, supporting data management and helping staff navigate the system.
Lead staff professional development on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies, promoting a holistic approach to education.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in counseling and education.
Review Student Learning Profiles with teachers, families, and students to create personalized plans for student success.
Conduct at least one parent conference with each family annually to discuss students' progress and address any concerns.
Perform other duties as needed to meet the needs of students, families, and staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum - Bachelor's degree in School Counseling or related field required.
Valid Florida School Counseling Certification.
Experience with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies and interventions is required.
Previous experience in a school counseling or student support role preferred.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and mediation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, and students.
Commitment to student-centered, equity-focused support.
Benefits:
Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $58,000 to $65,000.
