My Sister's Keeper Program

Experience the power of community with The Light Academy’s, My Sister's Keeper Afterschool 9 month program. This program is designed to help girls ages 12 - 15 build self-esteem, work with others, and advocate for themselves. Based on the tenets in the book, "How to Effectively Communicate With Our Girls", authored by Dr. Cassandre Davis, our program combines group activities, cultural experiences, and social-emotional skill building for an enriching and fun experience.
Our girls need support. All of our girls need us.
MSK is seeking to support all girls. As such, we make a concerted effort to offer support to young ladies who are often overlooked because of their academic or behavioral accomplishments. Based on the experience of Dr. Davis, girls with exceptional academic records are perceived as “strong” or “mature.” As a result, they are not offered the same support and information as girls who outwardly challenge authority or perform lower academically. This lack of support leaves a vast group of “responsible” young girls without an outlet to ask the same questions most girls in their age group have. The MSK afterschool program seeks to fill this gap.

How will you know ?

Girls will take a research-based self-assessment to gauge their mental, emotional, and physical well-being at the start of the program.

After receiving services and weekly support, girls will complete a second self-assessment to gauge and compare their mental, emotional, and physical well-being to their first assessment.

The responses will be discussed with parents and caretakers to encourage targeted continued support of their child, areas of strength, and areas of improvement.
We encourage maximum participation to receive maximum benefits.
Location, Scheduling & Details
Classes for the 2025-2026 SY will be held in Miramar, Florida twice a week. Schedule will be determined based on client needs.
